The Only True Identity We Have Is That Which We Manifest Within Ourselves

Governor Reynolds,

I am shipping my U.S. Navy Dress Blues, Dress Whites, Peacoat, Desert Uniforms, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Reenlistment Certificates, Discharge Documents, Personal Awards, Career Memories, and every challenge coin I accumulated during twenty years of service directly to your office. What you do with them is entirely irrelevant to me.

The conduct of your leadership, manifested through your political appointees, has clarified precisely what this administration values, what it represents, and whose lives it treats as disposable. You have revealed what these uniforms and other career memories actually mean under your watch—and in doing so, you have stripped away the meaning, honor, and purpose of two decades of my life.

You may believe you are fooling the public while your chosen few fight over your table scraps, as you cycle through fifty Sharpies staging the next ceremonial bill signing. But I see through the performance, Governor Reynolds. Strip away the political machinery, the glamour, and the manufactured authority, and you are nothing more than an ordinary citizen on the shoulder of the road with flashing lights in the rearview mirror. Your record reveals an unbroken pattern of entitlement, unqualified arrogance, and a profound contempt for the rule of law.

I am sending you my uniforms and other career memories because the evidence is clear: under your brand of leadership, they represent a lie. Hang them in your closet next to the rest of your political props. They no longer belong in mine.

Do not return these personal effects to me in a hollow attempt to ease your conscience. Show the integrity, maturity, and transparency to reveal who you truly are: throw them in the trash, just as you have done to my children and to the life of a disabled veteran you have spent years persecuting, criminalizing, and discriminating against.

Respectfully,

Michael J. Merritt (Servant of Jesus Christ)
