I think the reason I committed myself so fiercely to my government transparency investigative work was because I lost everything and everyone that I ever loved in my life, and I wanted to let go of believing in the possibility of feeling joy within my own life so I could dedicate myself to protecting others from what I feel inside every day of my life.

I wanted to be a sentinel in darkness that provided light for the weary, the damaged, and the captive. I wanted them to know I would not let their lives exist where mine does.

I will not fail in this mission.
